by Roald Dahl

A community of creatures develops and mobilizes in the pursuit of the food that's being horded by three very mean farmers.  Its a fairy tale, of course, and a classic children's tale, but we still believe in the power of food to bring people together and drive change in our society.

Turn-of-the-twentieth-century America, and New York in particular, come alive in E.L. Doctorow's Ragtime.  The novel owes its name to a type of music popular during that period, characterized by a syncopated, or "ragged," rhythm.  True to its name, the novel captures the sounds and beats of the city.  While many things have changed in the last hundred years, that unique New York sound is still very much alive today.  We are proud that as a small but bustling bakeshop that operates twenty-four hours we contribute to that distinct New York rhythm.

by Frank Bruni

We often get asked what is it like to work in a bakery? Do we gain weight? Do we eat all the time? How do we resist all the temptation? The truth is that for those of us who work in this industry, our relationship with food can be complicated.  Our challenge is to be passionate about food without letting it consume our lives.  How do we find a balance? It is this tension that is at the heart of the memoir Born Round by Frank Bruni, the former New York Times restaurant critic (and friend of Grandaisy).  Mr. Bruni opens up about his struggle with overeating and body image and ultimately about achieving a healthy relationship with food.
